Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil – What's the Difference?

Nowadays, there’s no shortage of plant-based wellness products on the market – and CBD and Hemp Oil are two of the most prominent compounds you’ll recognize in standalone or infused products. While you may have heard of both, do you know what separates Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil? Allow Nature’s Script to educate you on the key differences between these two compounds and how they are utilized in our premium Hemp Extract products.

Overview – Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil

Hemp Oil

The term “Hemp Oil” is confusing because it can be used to categorize any oil derived from the Hemp plant. Hemp Oil may refer to the oil extracted from the entire plant: its seeds, leaves or stalk. Generally, Hemp Oil is made from hemp seeds and is known as Hemp seed oil.

Hemp seed oil is considered a carrier oil and contains unique properties. However, it does not contain any active CBD. You can find Hemp seed oil at most nutritional stores for purchase.

CBD Oil

Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, is a prevalent cannabinoid compound derived from the Hemp plant. CBD Oil comes from the leaves, flowers and stalks of the Hemp plant. Since CBD Oil can be obtained from various parts of the Hemp plant, it’s also recognized as Hemp Extract.

At Nature’s Script, we use CBD and Hemp Extract interchangeably when referring to our products.

For CBD to be considered legal in the United States, it must be extracted from the Industrial Hemp plant and contain less than 0.3% THC – the federal legal limit. Due to such low amounts of THC, CBD Oil is non-psychoactive and won’t cause a “high.”  You can find CBD Oil products online, at vape stores, gas stations or CBD-specific shops.

How Are They Extracted?

Hemp Oil

Hemp seed oil is extracted solely from the seeds of the hemp plant. The Hemp seeds must be cold-pressed and processed to yield oil. The resulting Hemp seed oil can then be added to a variety of commercial products, including food, cosmetics, lotions and more.

CBD Oil

There are a few different extraction methods to obtain CBD. CBD can be derived via Supercritical CO2, hydrocarbon solvent, steam distillation or natural solvent extraction. Each method has its pros and cons and varies in safety and effectiveness. CBD Oil can be infused into a variety of products, including edibles, topicals, pet products and more.

What Are Their Benefits?

Hemp Oil

The seeds from Hemp contain vital nutrients beneficial to the human body. Hemp seeds are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids your body does not produce. You’ll find the same fatty acids – Omega-3 and Omega-6 – in Hemp seed oil as you would in fish, nuts and plants. These fatty acids are crucial to your overall wellness. They may benefit your metabolism, skin, cardiovascular health and prevent oxidative damage from free radicals.

CBD Oil

While the chemical composition of CBD is not fully understood, many believe CBD Oil carries an array of beneficial properties. CBD’s properties show promise thanks to the biological system in your body known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is a neurological system comprised of cannabinoid receptors that regulate functions such as immune response, appetite, pain, inflammation, mood, sleep cycle and more.

Your body naturally produces cannabinoids, but CBD may encourage your body to produce more cannabinoids to ensure the proper functioning of the ECS. Evidence even points to CBD carrying anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. While this information is preliminary and not concrete yet, CBD Oil seems to have plenty of benefits while having little to no adverse side effects.
